What Documents Do You Need for a Business Loan in Ireland?
Why your documents matter
The quickest way to a decision on a business loan is a complete application. Lenders use your documents to understand how the business performs, whether it can afford the repayments and whether its tax affairs are in order. Missing or out-of-date paperwork is the most common reason applications stall.
Here is what Irish lenders usually ask for, and how to get each item ready.
New to borrowing? Start with how to get a business loan in Ireland.
Filed financial accounts
Most lenders ask for your last two years of financial accounts. For a limited company, these are the accounts filed with the Companies Registration Office (CRO) with your annual return.
If your accounts are overdue, file them before you apply. A lender may not be able to assess the business without them.
Business bank statements
Bank statements show how money actually moves through the business: your income, regular costs and how you manage your balance. Lenders typically ask for the last six months.
Many lenders now let you share statements securely through Open Banking. You give the lender read-only access to your transactions for the assessment, which is faster than downloading and uploading PDFs.
Tax clearance certificate
A tax clearance certificate confirms that your tax affairs are in order. Companies can apply for eTax Clearance through Revenue Online Service (ROS). Once it is issued, you get a Tax Clearance Access Number that a lender can use to check your status online.
If there is an issue with your tax affairs, sort it out with Revenue first, because most lenders will not proceed without clearance.

Expect to provide:
